Past Events
A participatory event to explore various aspects of the Commons, to make connections, celebrate and get a taste of the Commons! Come and join us!
The day will consist of several facilitated sessions in which we will explore various themes in a group format
Who is this event for?
For people who do not know about the Commons but would like to find out
For people who practice aspects of the Commons like working on a community project but who are not more aware of it as wider movement
For those who know about the Commons to come and give support to the emergence of the Commons as a new direction for society to take.
Why this is important?
We live in a world where hierarchical political and economical structures not only no longer serve us well but are depleting our common resources and destroying those important relationships between people and nature necessary for our subsistence on this planet. e.g climate and environmental problems, biodiversity (seeds), food, water quality, housing crisis, privatisation of the NHS, democratic deficit, lack of public space, the corporate threat of TTIP, etc.
People are in need of an alternative and the commons is a tried and tested form of self organising in traditional societies and in innovative ways via the internet and technology. While not being an ideology or a ‘silver bullet solution’ it can be the starting point for a complete change in direction away from profit as the defining measure of society (GDP) and towards community (well-being).
We feel there is therefore a need for those who are self organising and doing things primarily for the benefit of the community to come together to see how we can face these crises.
The idea of the CommonsFest and Commons Taster is to bring a diversity of Commons oriented groups and organisations together, to make connections, celebrate and promote the Commons and be a catalyst for a larger movement.
The Event will have the following structure:
